Instagram is removing their Basic Display API on December 4th. This is what third-party apps like Setty use to connect user’s Instagram grids within our app. They are now requiring users to have a Creator or Business account in order to connect. If you currently are using a personal account, we want to make this switch as easy as possible for you! Follow the simple instructions below to see how to make the switch:
1. Open Instagram and go to your profile
2. Tap the menu icon in the top right corner of the screen
3. Scroll down to the “For professionals” section and tap Account type and tools
4. Tap Switch to a professional account
5. Follow Instagram’s prompts to make the switch
Still unable to connect? We want to help you out! Please contact our support team here.
FAQs
1. I have a private account. How does this affect me?
Instagram requires any creator or business account to be a public account. We totally understand wanting to keep your privacy! You can still use our grid feature without connecting an Instagram account. To do so, import images from your previous 6-12 Instagram posts to give you a preview without having any account connected. When you upload a new post, go back into Setty and add that image to your grid!
2. Why is Instagram doing this?
They didn’t provide much information on the why, but stated that they are removing it and focusing more on the business and creator API. You can read their official blog post about it here.
3. What’s the difference between a personal account and a creator account?
Creator accounts provide more analytics data on your stories/posts, allows you to schedule posts, and run ads. You also can’t have a private account if you are a creator.
